Trade Unions and Community: The German Working Class in New York City, 1870-1900 (Working Class in American History) ReviewMy family, of German extraction, arrived in the United States in 1860. I haven't yet read this book, but I will. Having said that, I would note that the author is off to a rough start, with the very first sentence of the book. She claims that in 1850, a traveler left Europe by steamer...and landed in New York in one week's time. Wrong. Passage aboard a steamer, even with sails and a screw propeller, took 10-12 days at the very least. And this, at a time when speed was everything. By failing to comport with this very basic information, the author sets a questionable tone for the remainder of her work.Trade Unions and Community: The German Working Class in New York City, 1870-1900 (Working Class in American History) OverviewWant to learn more information about Trade Unions and Community: The German Working Class in New York City, 1870-1900 (Working Class in American History)?
