Ravenous: The Stirring Tale of Teen Love, Loss and Courage ReviewAfter reading and loving Insatiable, I was really looking forward the sequel, Ravenous, but it ended up being a bit of a let down. I knew the book would be dealing a lot with the characters' sexuality, and was looking forward in particular to Hannah's story. Perhaps it was because of my disproportionate interest in this story over the others, that I found myself rather frustrated with the style, similar to Insatiable, where it would rotate between the points of views of the different characters. I kept feeling like it would cut off in the middle of a scene, and then I would have to jump ahead or wait until I got through unrelated scenes about the other characters. There were also some things about Hannah's story that bothered me, such as her (college) teacher initiating a romantic relationship with her. I did think the book shed some good light on some of the struggles faced by these young adults as they come of age and struggle to recover from their eating disorder. However, it seemed like the characters spent a lot of time complaining about the same things over and over.
The end of the book was the most disappointing. While the characters had made some progress, the changes were only slight, and I didn't feel like it gave me a sense of resolution. Perhaps this ending is more realistic to the (lack of) progress that would be made with real therapy clients in that amount of time. But it felt like the author just got tired of writing, and ended the book abruptly.
The sequel was definitely not as good as the original, and if you are looking for a good story about eating disorders, I would highly recommend Insatiable instead.Ravenous: The Stirring Tale of Teen Love, Loss and Courage Overview
